Background:
From the day on which the course of his life was forever changed in a serendipitous exposure to a glowing ooze to his first day in Nautilus, Donatello had lived a sheltered life. Raised by Master Splinter beneath the streets of New York City, Donatello was one of four turtle brothers, and all of them were initiated into the art of ninjutsu from a very early age, though none of the four could remember receiving their bandanas in the process. The five of members of this unusual family had been changed in an accident by the mutagenic ooze that had come from a canister labelled with the initials TCRI, and the shattered glass container was kept as a clue to a past they could not yet understand.
Donnie spent all of his time near his family, whether with his brothers or with their adoptive father Splinter. Although the slowest and weakest of his brothers physically, Donatello showed a level of intellect well beyond that of his brothers. As he grew older, Donatello tinkered with things and delved deep into reading any books he could get his hands on whenever he was not in training with his brothers. He craved knowledge, and by a young age, had learned basic electronics. While still a tot, Donatello had few adventures beyond the annual trick or treating above ground under Master Splinter’s protective watch. The most memorable was attempting to teach another child how to defend against bullies, with Donatello attempting to teach strategy through chess.
Years passed spent underground and out of sight, and all the while, Donatello trained alongside his three brothers in an art of fighting, of defense, and of the mind. It was only after becoming a teenager that his brothers and he began to venture topside with increasing frequency, and that came only after being forced out of their home by an invasion of mousers, robotic drones designed to seek and destroy rats. After the loss of their original home, the family was able to recover most of their belongings and start anew in a chamber even deeper underground with far more space to accommodate the master and four teenagers. The chamber held strange markings on the walls, an unusual structural design, and was littered with crystals that were mostly broken. Yet with cleaning, fresh wiring, and work to gather new furniture (repaired for use), the family had a new home.
It was not long before the four turtles ran into the same drones again, and in the process, made their first direct human contact without any separation to hide themselves. April O’Neil, while initially overwhelmed by the shift in her own perception of reality, soon enough joined forces with the mutants and together, the four brothers and scientist were able to destroy the original source of the drones that posed a threat to the family and the city alike - the labs belonging to Baxter Stockman.
Not long after, the family forged yet another ally in a human when Raphael made friends with a fellow hot-tempered individual named Casey Jones. Though limited in his own involvement, Donatello was certainly there to support Raphael when the time came for a showdown with the Purple Dragons when they came for the vigilante Casey Jones; he provided the Battle Shell armored transport and had built a motorcycle for Raphael called the Shell Cycle.
Donatello really began to show his technical know-how again in the encounter with an entity composed of self-replicating nanomachines, and all too soon again when the mysterious Foot Clan collected an ancient from the museum to use in fishing another artifact from the river. While the Foot was less active immediately after, the Purple Dragons were attempting to recruit. The turtles stepped in to assist when Casey Jones put himself in the midst of the gang to save a young teen by the name of Angel that he had promised to look after. Their new friend returned home, but other friends were soon to go missing when homeless people were being snatched. After the Professor was snatched, the turtles followed the trail and rescued them from the Garbage Man. The Garbage Man vanished into the river.
For all of the new experiences that Donatello shared with his brothers, it was only after Leonardo was approached by the leader of the Foot Clan with a request for an alliance in an attempted manipulation that the brothers found themselves swept up in dangerous forces far larger than they had ever expected to meet. Although they fought The Shredder in a battle on a rooftop, the brothers were initially forced to retreat. Their father Master Splinter found them and was able to turn the tide, defeating The Shredder himself in a second confrontation on a rooftop.
Following the debut of Michelangelo as the Turtle Titan in a team up with the superhero Silver Sentry, Donatello was studying the crystals found in the lair when Mikey activated them. The harmonics drew attention from fellow mutants who were once humans genetically engineered by the Foot Clan to scour the underground for signs of Utrom. In order to replenish a damaged crystal, the brothers travelled with the diggers to a necropolis. There, the lone survivor of an entire underground race gave the diggers back their human form. They could not, however, leave the city without reverting while tied to the main crystal of the cavern. While Donatello and his brothers wanted to stay, the former diggers urged them home with the intention of seeking answers in the city themselves.
The turtles reluctantly returned to the sewers, but before they were able to make it home, encountered Foot ninja searching the tunnels. Master Splinter found them and they slipped away undetected while the Foot searched for the lair protected by numerous tech inventions made by Donatello to keep their home hidden and safe. In order to wait for the searches to end, the family of mutants went to stay with April. While with their human ally, Donnie met Kirby. Kirby had been renting the basement apartment from April, and recently found a crystal that could bring his drawings to life. Donatello saw for himself, and the two went to the alternate dimension Kirby had created. The adventure ended with Don's new friend trapped in the dimension.
Then, all too soon, the Shredder returned to seek revenge and nearly killed the leader of the brothers.
The family retreated into the countryside to allow Leonardo to heal and recuperate after the defeat. While giving Leonardo time to heal with Raphael to aid him in forging new swords, Michelangelo was assisted by Donatello and Casey in handling a giftes but obsessed scientist - which resulted in their protection of the local "Green Man" family. After nearly three months away from their lair, the family returned to the city to fight the forces of the Foot Clan in their own fortress. Encountering both familiar and stunning new foes in the process, the turtles and their master managed to ascend to the top of the tower to confront The Shredder in another battle. With Leonardo finishing the fight using one of the weapons the Foot Clan had previously stolen from a museum, the turtles thought themselves successful only for their father and master to vanish.
Despite several difficulties in tracking him down, the turtles eventually located their father again at a building labelled TCRI, and encountered aliens for the first time. The Utroms, small pink beings with extensive life spans that hid from sight in robotic suits, had taken Master Splinter. Before the brothers could retrieve him, the turtles were accidently transported across the cosmos to another alien planet after stepping onto the transporter hidden within the building. On the new planet, they met Professor Honeycutt, a scientist that had been uploaded into an android. He held the key to their way back home to rescue their father, and thus gained the protection of the ninja brothers.
Facing the forces of The Federation and the Triceraton alike in desperate attempt to return home by protecting the fugitive android known as the Fugitoid, the brothers were exposed to both warring galactic races with growing empires. It was the Triceratons that were able to capture them, and they were imprisoned for their association with the Fugitoid who was once Professor Honeycutt. Soon enough, the turtles escaped prison only to be placed in a gladiatorial arena. Despite coming out victorious in their match, the four were imprisoned yet again, but a fateful meeting with a Triceraton gladiator renewed their hope. Combining forces, they not only escaped, but managed to take the leader of the Triceraton forces hostage long enough to flee with Professor Honeycutt. Pursuit from both sides managed to corner them, and after three weeks away from Earth, they were finally pinned with no escape left.
In an unexpected turn, it was the Utroms that transported the four home along with their new ally with only 8 hours away from Earth thanks to the laws of 3D space and temporal mechanics. The Utroms proved themselves to be not only kind aliens, but quite heavily involved in the creation of the unusual family of a rat master and four turtle brothers. The chemical byproduct created in the efforts to build a Transmat to transport themselves home caused the mutations in the four turtles and rat. It was through a virtual reality simulation that the turtles, along with their father, learned of the extensive circumstances that eventually lead to their unique creation. Circumstances which, to their surprise, involved The Shredder himself.
Not to be out of danger for long, The Shredder made an attack against the Utroms, and it was with the help of the turtles that their new allies managed to escape safely back across the vast space between worlds. Although they returned to their home beneath the streets after making their own escape from The Shredder, the family sought refuge in the countryside once again to rest and recouperate after their trials.
With The Shredder having destroyed April's home, the family hosted her in their own lair in the way she had given them shelter. It gave the whole family, April and Casey included, time to bond further even after their return from respite. As always however, a simple ice cream run on movie night ended early when Leonardo was challenged to a duel to the death in a universal challenge match from the son of the Damiyo; the Ultimate Ninja. Leonardo won honroably without killing his challenger, however, the Ultimate Ninja, desperate for fame, attempted to attack after surrendering the match. He was stopped by the Damiyo, and took his son after revealing he and his kin had given Earth the art of ninjutsu in the past.
Studying the small amount of technology left by the Utroms in the form of a hover skimmer, Donatello was able to develop his own tech skills much further. Enough that he was able the build his brother Michelangelo a hoverboard. In turn, this gave him peace to work on excavation in the water-filled tunnels connected to their lair to give them access to the river as well as new transportation vehicles. The peace was disrupted soon with the return of Nano after a few lieces had survived their first encounter, and despite his want to help the nanomachines find a better life, the rampage of the swarm had to be stopped with an EMP at Coney Island. This gave them to opportunity to recover the stolen jewelry, which April turned in to the police for a reward. The reward provided her with the necessary funds to rebuild her home and antique store.
When Donatello pulled Michelangelo into assisting with the stabilization of the excavated tunnels he had opened, the orange-clad brother was the first to meet Leatherhead. Leatherhead, a mutant like themselves, had been left behind when the Utroms left Earth. He had made a temporary lab in the turtles' old home to try to build a Transmat device to follow them, and was tricked into helping Baxter Stockman adapt to an Utrom robotic suit. Leatherhead protected the turtles from Stockman, and when the unstable space collapsed thanks to Baxter causing an explosion as he retreated, he held up the roof long enough to let them escape.
Not one to forget a promise, Donatello began working almost obsessively on the matter of curing their friends in the underground city. Days without sleep tasked him, and the rest of his family respected his need for space to concentrate. Exhausted, Don fell asleep only for a dream to provide an idea of how to handle the nearly indestructible crystals using sound, and gave the answer he needed for a cure. Having recently developed the Turtle Tunneler to give them easy access with a return to the city, the turtles drilled down to search for more crystals and help their friends with them. In their absence, the crystal moon had been knocked down by their friends in a desperate search for a cure, and they had reverted to monsters. Only able to cure Quarry, they learned of why the moon was gone. Using the tunneler to chase after the crystal moon and wrapping it with crystal cable, the brothers raised the moon. This reverted their friends to humans, and gave them the opportunity they needed to develop enough crystal serum for them all. A ride back up to the surface, and their friends could finally go home.
In the weeks following assisting the Utroms in their escape home, the city gamg factions (the mob, the Foot, and the Purple Dragons) began to war over territory. As the violence worsened, Leonardo felt responsible, and attempted to quell the storm despite the rest of his family wanting to stay out of the fighting. Not to be left on his own, Donatello joined in to assist along with his other brothers and Casey. Unexpectedly, Karai, adopted human daughter of the Shredder, struck a deal to try to cease the fighting with the turtles. Raphael left...only to return just in time with Master Splinter to rescue them when Karai's plan failed and the turtles, her contingency plan, were being pushed to the limit. Karai regained control of the city's factions, and promised to forgive the vendetta on the turtles.
In the quiet to follow, Donatello completed the work opening the path to the river and the construction of the Shell Sub. As promised for assisting prior, Michelangelo joined Donatello for the maiden voyage. Recently, 15 freight ships had been sunk in the Hudson Bay, and it was the two brothers that discovered why. The Garbage Man had constructed a new start underwater. Together, they shut him down again, protecting a cruise ship that was his next target and leaving Donatello with a lot of work to repair the sub. During this time, he attended a Super Slam Hockey game and was dragged with his brothers into rescuing the trophy in an effort to keep Casey safe.
Time taken to build more sewer skimmers, including four individuals colored to match each brother, all four turtles were out testing the transportation when they encountered Zog. Zog, a Triceraton that had slipped away in the confusion around the Transmat, was delusional from breathing Earth's atmosphere. While unable to give him sulphur to breathe, Donatello improved his breathing with a nitrogen line from his now busted personal skimmer. He did so without hesitation, and even against the concerns of his brothers. This helped Zog breathe better, but he remained convinced the four were officers. When confronted with a remote-controlled imposter of Master Splinter that was proving tough to handle, Zog followed orders and put it down for them. With Donatello tracing the remote signal, they found the new Foot lab on a freighter at the dock with Stockman trapped as a brain in a vat providing direction for developments. Zog removed the anchors for the mooring lines, and in the fight against more androids built with Utrom biochips, the Shredder, Hun, Karai, and the Foot Elite as well as Foot ninjas, it was Zog that sacrificed his life to give the turtles a way off the ship before it exploded from Don's handiwork.
With the antique store nearly ready after April's home was rebuilt, the turtles and Casey were helping with final set up in the shop to prepare to reopen. In the shuffle of items, they found an old puzzle cube brought home by April's Uncle Augie, who disappeared when she was younger. April was cleaning it when she activated it, sending herself and the turtles to another dimension. Fighting giant wasps and jungle terrain, they managed to find where Augie had survived while there, and his notes led them to the temple with a matching and much larger puzzle cube to send them home. April fought with them, wounding the queen enough for her and Don to drag his paralyzed brothers to the cube to escape.
A stretch of downtime followed, allowing Donatello to make shell cycles for his brothers and himself. These came in handy for a road trip taken to North Hampton to track down a comic book for Michelangelo. The issue did not exist, but the retired members of the Justice Force were brought back to action as they were kidnapped. The turtles and Casey helped Stainless Steel Steve rescue them, and found the daughter of Doc Dome and Battling Bernice. Michelangelo gave them the strategy needed to stop Amanda from taking revenge for losing her mother as a baby as part of the Justice Force, and gave her father a chance to be in her life.
After their return home, Master Splinter spent a month of time intensely training. As he had 3 years prior, he left for a trip he told his sons would last a few days, and had instructed them to remain in the lair. Instead, the four brothers followed him at Raphael's urging, and they witnessed him draw shmbols in chalk, chant to create a doorway, and vanish through it. Using UV light, Donatello revealed the symbols to be traced over, and Leonardo provided the chant needed to open the doorway themselves to follow. On the other side, they were pulled into combat against four beings from another portal and defeated them. Finding Splinter, the four learned they were in the Battle Nexus, and joined the competition that Master Splinter as well as Master Yoshi had won previously. On the way, they passed through the Hall of Champions, and Leonardo was attacked by shadow assassins. Usagi Yojimbo aided him as he had once aided Splinter against these attackers and Draco. Donatello was eliminated in the first round of the tournament, but his quick defeat allowed him to tend Leonardo when he was poisoned in the second round by the Ultimate Ninja. Protective of his brother, he accepted help from Usagi to find and treat the poison of the dissolving dart. The Damiyo was attacked by the shadow assassins, and Splinter was framed for it. Soon after, Usagi and Donatello had to protect the Damiyo in the Healer's Pavilion. Fighting until Leonardo woke and joined the fight, the assasins retreated. Raphael had lost to Michelangelo in the tournament, and freed Master Splinter from the dungeon with the help of Traximus, the Triceraton they had met in the gladitorial arena before. At the center of the attacks was the Ultimate Ninja and Draco, and the two were swallowed in their bickering in a dimensional wound created by the War Staff. The Damiyo healed the rift and proclaimed Michelangelo the winner of the tournament.
Home in New York City, a black out heralded the arrival of the Triceraton fleet at Earth. Having traced the original transportation from the other side of the galaxy to the TCRI building, the Triceraton Prime Leader remained fixated on capturing Professor Honeycutt. Forces invaded the planet, rounding up humans that had been near the use of the Transmat when the Utroms were utilizing it. This included April and Casey, and the turtles were quick to mount a rescue effort. April was separated from Casey once the forcefield containing the prisoners was destroyed by Leonardo and Donatello. Donatello intervened long enough to get April and a pair of other humans away from the Triceratons before he was shot from behind and knocked out. Captured, he was taken to the mothership and brough before the Prime Leader. Over and over he tried to tell them the Fugitoid had left. Admitting he could not say where the Fugitoid had gone, his mind was probed forcibly. With assistance from Master Splinter, he resisted the effort to find the right memory, and shorted the probe. He watched as New York was cut out and contained in a field as Beijing had been with the Prime Leader threatening to hunt down his brothers. Donatello plead, informing them they could search Earth for the positronic signature the android should have, which would be unique in a low-level tech planet like Earth. His brothers arrived midway through the scan in shackles, and lead away by an imposter guard that was their ally, they escaped with the Prime Leader's personal cruiser. Again. Although attacks were made on the cruiser, Donatello piloted the cruiser through the vessel raising New York and landed the smart energy weapons into their own ship, freeing New York City in time to return it to the surface. Finding no positronic energy signature on Earth, but instead a newer trail from the Transmat, the Triceratons pulled away from the planet...only for Professor Honeycutt to beam in to where the TCRI building had once been. Professor Honeycutt contacted the turtles, and also sent a signal to the Triceratons to try to surrender himself. The turtles intervened after hiding the cruiser, preventing the Fugitoid from being taken to be disassembled. Pulling him into literal pieces thanks to a moment of panic from Donatello to stop the bot's efforts to get them caught, the turtles split up with his functional pieces until Don could convince Honeycutt to make a signal to hide his positronic energy signature. The signal was broadcast, allowing the brothers to meet and rejoin their friend. Just as they began on the idea of figuring out another solution to the Federation vs Triceraton war, members of the US military surrounded the turtles and bot. Captured by the secretive group known as the Earth Protection Force led by Agent Bishop, the Fugitoid was given to General Blank of the Federation as a way to buy safety for Earth. Agent Bishop had plans of his own for the turtles, having watched them for some time, and was about to disect them when April, Casey, and Master Splinter came to their aid. Freeing the turtles and Leatherhead, whom had been a prisoner of Agent Bishop after he dug out of the collapsed lair, the group escaped the genetics lab to search for Honeycutt. Professor Honeycutt was in the middle of a disrupted download of a virus he created, and after pleaing with Donatello for help, was able to resume when Donatello returned power to the base. The virus was beamed to all Federation ships and some Triceraton ships. At this time, as they would soon learn, Traximus overthrew the Prime Leader. Unforunately, the effort of corrupting so many systems burnt out the robot body inhabited by Professor Honeycutt. A space funeral was held, and Donatello said a brief word of goodbye before his robotic body was launched into space.
Following the invasion, Donatello focused with Leatherhead on developing a new communications array while Raphael and Leonardo assisted April and Casey at her store, and Michelangelo and Master Splinter examined the sewer tunnels for damage. Michelangelo and Master Splinter took down a pair of hired superpowered goons by the name of Touch and Go, and the money from Hun meant for them as payment for killing the father and son went to a blind old lady Raphael had made friends with serendipitously.
Although the family was ready to have Leatherhead remain with them longterm, the tortures endured by their fellow mutant caused his temper to become wild. Nightmares plagued him, and when Michelangelo tried to wake him from one, Leatherhead lashed out and knocked him unconscious. Thinking the worst, Leatherhead ran from the lair. The brothers followed once Mikey woke. They had to deal with a hunter using sentries, landmines, and other higher tech weapons, but managed to reunite with Leatherhead. Despite the fact Leatherhead was unwilling to return to the Hamato family lair, he did accept guidance to a closed off subway station from Donatello so he could be a mere 3 minutes away from his new family.
Another visit to the countryside to relax following the alien invasion turned sour when Donatello took Raphael and Michelangelo out to pick apples. A man stumbled calling for help and passed out from a bullet wound in his shoulder. Donatello stabilized his condition with first aid treatment while Raphael and Michelangelo dealt with the heavily armed terrorists. While Michelangelo took the wounded man to the hospital, Raphael and Donatello thwarted the H.A.T.E. (Humans Against The Extraterrestrials) plot to set off a thermonuclear device in the heart of NYC.
Returning to the city, Oroku Saki (the human guise of The Shredder) had been using his position as a CEO inventer and enterpreneur to charitably donate time and resources through his company to clean and rebuild New York City after the invasion for more than a week already. In reality, it was his way to buy salvage rights, and with enough cash donations, his alleged ties to the Foot were forgotten woth coty services assisting the collection of materials. While out practicing their ninjutsu skills in a game of hide and seek, with Donatello using night vision goggles instead to the displeasure of his brothers, they were disrupted by a fax machine-like call to Don's shell cell; a repeat of recent call attempts. Following the dismissal of the signal, the turtles sighted police helicopters at Central Park and went to investigate, discovering the way The Shredder was gathering alien resources. After a scuffle with better trained Foot ninjas in the park, they followed the helicopters to the waterfront to find the Foot company working on salvaging from the crashed Triceraton ship. Slipping inside, they sabatoged the efforts to remove the power core, only to be confronted by the Amazonian Blade Bots. One destroyed, the remaining two chased the turtles as the ship flooded as part of the sabotage, and the two bots shorted suddenly - landing in a room of Triceraton explosives. The turtles ran to escape and made it into the open water where Karai found them. She reported the turtles escaped and left, allowing the brothers to return home unhindered.
After spending the holidays with friends and family, and adopting a cat Michelangelo named Klunk, the brothers were called upon by one such friend. Angel had gone to the police when her brother went missing hunting for treasure at a construction job site he had been working, but was turned down due to continued chaos from clean up following the invasion. Three days missing, the turtles hurried with Angel to the site - a building on Wall Street. There, the turtles encountered corpses guarding a secret doorway, and were informed by the owner of the history regarding a meteor that lured in meals and servants with promise of wealth and power. Given a spear made to kill it, the turtles went into the caverns where it lived underground to face the huge tentacled monster. They were caught and put in pods, then subjected to nightmares to feed the monster. Leonardo was able to break free mentally and rescue the others. They found Angel's brother, and using the meteor spear, Leonardo attacked the creature. It vanished, releasing the owner of the property from its service, and the turtles left.
Now several months out from the Triceraton invasion, the city of Beijing remains trapped in the atmospheric shield used to lift it during the invasion. Efforts to take over the shield and anti-gravity device within the dome over the city by human scientists had resulted in the city rising higher away from the planet's surface. This very device was desired by The Shredder, but he intended to take it and allow the city to fall. Karai did not feel right about allowing millions to die, and she sought out the turtles to ask for their aid. Another call prior to being lured in had started a download to Donatello's palm pilot, and during the conversation with Karai, Professor Honeycutt spoke out from the device. He had saved a backup of himself in the Earth communication satellites, and downloaded a trimmed version of himself to the palm pilot. With Professor Honeycutt to help hack and control the device, the turtles agreed to help. Karai snuck them aboard the blimp craft designed for the mission, and she and the cargo box they hid in were dropped over Beijing by Hun in an attempt to rid himself of competition from Karai. Together, the six were able to save the city and Honeycutt disabled the device with an EMP. It was after they realized he had lowered it back to the planet facing the wrong direction.
A planetary alignment in the solar system caused a massive surve of weather and earthquakes with a point south of Greenland starting to rise from the sea; however, these changes were not due to the alignment itself. With the burnt out crystals in Donatello's lab recharged, they followed the suspicion regarding the crystals back to the underground city. The Moon Crystal had been recharged, and the slumbering population awoke from stasis - including the "sole survivor" encountered during their first trip to the city. Although captured, the turtles were freed by a rebellious member who revealed the history of the city as the remnants of the Y'Lyntians. Later to be known as Atlantis, the city had sunk when humans turned on the cruel people that had gained power from crystals from space only to ensalve and mutant servants. With direction from their rescuer, Versaillia, the turtles fought magma wraiths and broke the crystal being used to channel the will of the Y'Lyntian council. The underground city sank into the magma, and the turtles went home while their ally sought other remnants of her kind that were not content with the ways of the dark empire.
Back at the surface, the turtles were unwinding with a night game of water ballons when apprentice timestress Renet dropped in on them literally. Lord Simultaneous appeared briefly as a head to call her back, but Renet transported them away. In another time, the sorcerer Savanti Remaro performed a summoning spell to call the Time Scepter to him. As Renet had it in her possession, she and the turtles were pulled to 1406 in Europe with him. Fighting off Savanti's summoned dark warriors, the Renet was snatched away with the scepter by Savanti, and the turtles followed to his castle. Fighting two evolved cockroaches and then Savanti, they recovered the scepter briefly. The dragon obeying Savanti had been a disguise for the Ultimate Ninja and Draco - or rather, the fused form of them after escaping the rift from the Battle Nexus. Although Lord Simultaneous came at Renet's call for help, the scepter was stolen by the fused monstrosity and they vanished. Lord Simultaneous was unconcerned, knowing the scepter has a mind of its own. He returned the turtles home and took Renet back to her punishment - dusting duty.
Some while later while driving out on the streets in the Battle Shell, a call came over the radio sounding like Hun. Immediately the turtles recognized the trap, but following the clues to investigate, they found Hun on another mission. They ended up assisting Hun in rescuing Karai from Bishop. When Hun turned on them, Karai kicked him from the specialized train Bishop had held her on, and left affer thanking the turtles. Donatello was thrilled to keep the majority of the car train with suped up tech to study.
Not long after returning from 1406 and helping Karai, Donatello was talking to April about time travel and the calculations from her uncle regarding the dimension-shifting artifact when the fusion of Draco and the Ultimate Ninja portalled into the lair with the energy shorting out his computers. Although they tried to grab the time scepter away, the fused hateful being sent them out across time and space. Donatello was flung 30 years into the future...a future in which he had vanished. Without him to keep balance amongst the brothers, The Shredder gained power enough to kill Master Splinter within a couple years, take over the world, and capture Utrom scientists to build a colossal Transmat in preparation for galactic conquest. He learned of this after Michelangelo bailed him out at the old warehouse above their lair, and with the help of the rebel leader April, reached out to his estranged brothers Raphael and Leonardo. Gathering allies together for one last attack, they used the Tunneler to break into the fortress and attack The Shredder. The Amazonian Blade Bots killed Michelangelo, and Karai killed Leonardo and Raphael before April could hit her with a rocket launcher. Left alone, Donatello got The Shredder into position for the trap and pulled the trigger. It was done...he had killed The Shredder. Trying to gather himself after the intense battle, he was yanked away into a confrontation against the fusion of Draco and the Ultimate Ninja by Master Splinter and reunited with Raphael and Michelangelo. Together, they pried away the Time Scepter and War Staff - and the artifacts worked together to make things right. Lord Simultaneous arrived and reclaimed his scepter before restoring the Ultimate Ninja as a young version of himself to return the son of the Damiyo to his proper place.
Gathered together in the lair in the aftermath from being scattered across time and space, the family did not have much time to reflect before a sonic weapon drove them out with the frequency set to attack rats. The brothers carried their unconscious sensei and hit the surface in the Battle Shell. This allowed Bishop to find them, and with a swift attack with a gas bomb, brought them to a halt and knocked them out. Bishop's men took Master Splinter and the brothers woke after the effects wore off - only alive thanks to the intervention of Leatherhead. Using the train car left behind from saving Karai with a recall device implanted inside the structure, the five reptiles and a rebuilt Professor Honeycutt road it to Bishop's lab. There, they fought a prototype of his new soldier that was based on his DNA and Splinter's mutation as well as a mesh of alien DNA. Successful in rescuing Master Splinter and stopping the prototype with a biosuspension, they destroyed the lab and escaped.
Finally, New York City was cleaned and restored over months of cleaning and construction. With the efforts complete, Oroku Saki held a dinner to celebrate his departure home. Based on a vision Master Splinter had indicating the need to stop The Shredder and protect the Utroms, the family infiltrated the Foot headquarters. Donatello accompanied Leatherhead and Professor Honeycutt in a tech pad through the sewers to the underground portion of the estate. The Professor turned off security through a link placed by April above ground, and following a newly constructed and vast tunnel leading to the river, located a completed starship. Waiting at the entrance for him, Donatello and Leatherhead stalled Oroku Saki long enough for his family to come, but also long enough for Hun, the Foot Elite and other Foot, as well as Agent Bishop's men to reach them. Agent Bishops men attacked them all, Leatherhead took Hun down, and when Oroku Saki made it to the platform bridge to the starship, Donatello froze his metal suit with liquid nitrogen. Almost having stopped him, Karai intervened and carried The Shredder onboard the starship. Professor Honeycutt hacked the doorway open, and as the starship launched, Donatello clung to the side as his brothers and father lept out. With Donatello anchoring the chain of his family, his brothers and father climbed up and inside with him in time for take off. G-forces pinned them briefly, but they decided to attack the ship, knowing it would cripple The Shredder more easily than attacking him directly. Donatello hooked Professor Honeycutt to the system, and as he attempted to take control of propulsion, the Shredder attacked with a new exosuit and Karai. One by one his family fell until Donatello was the last and he was knocked out as well. A missile, like the many bombarding the ship on the way out thanks to Agent Bishop, hit and sent the systems into emergency lockdown. With the Shredder and Karai having been knocked out of the chamber from the turbulence, it bought the turtles and Splinter time to recover. Wounded, they could not fight again...and chose to overload the powercore. Professor Honeycutt provided the tech assistance, and just as the core overloaded, the ship was put in a stasis beam. The Utroms, including Mortu, had returned thanks to an urgent message from Professor Honeycutt placed early during infiltration. Taken to the infirmary, the family was treated. Right arm in a cast and sling, Donatello stood with his brothers and father to witness the trial of The Shredder on the Utrom homeworld. The Shredder was sentenced to exile on an ice asteroid and transported away. Karai and Doctor Chaplin, Baxter Stockman's protege, were turned over to Earth authorities. The turtles and Master Splinter, were returned home.
April and Casey took Splinter and the turtles with them back to the farm, and after dinner, settled them upstairs. Unfortunately, just as they were settling in, a visitor came. Casey's cousin Sid showed up, searching for money left by Casey's grandfather who had once robbed a train. Purple Dragons soon followed, aiming to collect a debt from Sid. Although wounded, the brothers drew the Purple Dragons, armed and dangerous, out of the house and took the goons down separately. Donatello took one down in the barn, and the leader as well as Sid were disarmed by Casey and April. The debt was cleared threatening the leader's car, and the Purple Dragons were sent packing. Sid, Casey, and April found the old loot, and it turned out it had been donated to charities by Casey's grandmother.
After weeks spent healing broken bones but not yet fully healed, the turtles took gear and went out on a camping trip at a nearby abandoned saw mill. A race to the top got all four onto the roof, and there, they watched a streak come across the night sky...and turn right at them. Crashing into the old saw mill then into the lake, the turtles were faced with a mech. Donatello suggested they attempt a peaceful approach first, but when the mech leveled a charging blaster at them, they were quick to disable it. Inside, a female pilot was passed out. Donatello looked after her until she woke, and once she did, they were able to talk thanks to her universal translator. Jhanna had been attacked prematurely on her way to fight for leadership of her kind by the dishonorable leader in power, and had mistaken the turtles as hired goons. She prepared for facing her opponent, her people having voted her to oppose Moriah, but the wait was short. Moriah brough hired help in the form of four other aliens of different species, and although the turtles respected Jhanna's request not to interfere initially, they stepped in before the four could finish her. The turtles occupied the four as best they could, taking them down one by one, and were knocked unconscious when the last went down. They woke in time to watch the last of the struggle between Jhanna and Moriah, and Jhanna was victorious in defeating the unkind leader that had inherited her position. Jhanna captured her, and returned with the turtles to their camp. Donatello lent her his bedroll and slept beside her. Her people summoned her home while the brothers slept, and Donatello woke to find the gift of her hair in the morning. Packing up and stowing the precious gift, he returned to the farm with his brothers.
Personality:
Donatello is the most gentle and soft-spoken among his teenage brothers, preferring reasoning to fighting. Gentle as he can be, Donatello will fight for what he feels is right when necessity requires it. At times he can be shy with meeting new people, sometimes merely observing quietly, but he has grown much more assertive than in his youth. Any new technology of course will draw him out of that shell. Of course, that old shyness surfaces whenever Donatello receives praise, as seen in the way he becomes briefly flustered as a result.
Level-headed, he isn’t easily riled up or angered, and his ability to stay calm allows him to act as a peacemaker between his brothers when there is need. Donatello is naturally caring, always keeping the wellbeing of his family and friends in mind even while he tends to neglect his own needs. It is only because of his brothers and father holding a regular routine that he ever realizes when he has missed sleep or meals while wrapped up in yet another project in his lab.
While keeping things in balance and peaceful is important to Donatello, making things better and finding ways to improve are just as driving for Donatello. Almost compulsively, the teenager seeks new knowledge and pushes the limits of what he has proven himself capable of creating previously. Despite his limited sources of material, Donatello manages to build incredible machines. At times, he gets caught up in trying to study the details of new technology or information encountered out of the lair and needs a reminder to redirect him to the situation at hand. Absorbing all he can learn, Donatello has focused his attention away from simple studies in his youth to invention as a result of his desire to improve life for his family. His inventions not only serve to make their harsh life easier, but to keep them safer.
Given his tendency to ignore his most basic needs in favor of his technological and scientific pursuits, Donatello also shows the habit of burying his own troubles under his work. Rather than face emotional strain, he prefers to place disturbing experiences and memories to the back of his mind. For the teenager, he usually manages to work through the stress quietly without addressing the causes. He has not learned to openly share his personal burdens in the way his brothers can express themselves. He does not want to hinder his family, and at times, requires that same family to intervene for his well-being in the long term.
Donatello is as much defined by his habits and behaviors as he is by the way he relates with each of his three brothers.
To Leonardo, he remains a steady support with reason and generally causes him the least worry. When facing tough odds, he provides Leonardo with the knowledge and guidance to manage otherwise impossible situations. He offers options and lets him know what possibilities they have available as potential courses of action. In turn, Leonardo gives Donatello focus and encourages his further development as a ninja while also limiting interference when Donatello really requires solitude.
To Raphael, Donatello is the gentle presence that does not shy away after a spell of anger, and is always assisting in protecting the home. He is, if nothing more, a point against which Raphael can reflect as his opposite in temper. While Raphael is on constant guard to keep his family safe from immediate danger, Donatello is the sentry that warns them of incoming danger using his security systems and extensive understanding of cause and effect.
To Michelangelo, Donatello is the most tolerant of his antics and allows him to expend energy pestering him without any threat of training or tackles. The two share a similar caring nature that drives them to reach out for affection, if in very different ways, while their two other brothers tend to share affection at more of a distance. In turn, Michelangelo is the most successful in inspiring that gentle, quiet turtle to be more expressive and playful.
Abilities:
From simple mobile phones to be shared among his family members to always keep them in touch through the tunnels and on the surface, to a tunneling machine capable of briefly withstanding a dive into magma, Donatello harnesses his understanding of technology in amazing ways as an inventor. Even new technology developed by more advanced races doesn’t take long for him to figure out enough to utilize. His intelligence is not only limited to the mechanical however, and he quickly adapts to new information with any scientific bearing, constantly and rapidly analyzing the situations in which he and his brothers find themselves. Additionally, he shows the ability to teach himself new languages, including Italian and deciphering alien symbols.
Like his brothers, Donatello has been granted abilities far beyond that of any normal turtle by that glowing ooze, and his training from his father has enhanced his skill sets. As a ninja-in-training, Donatello has already been trained to use a bo staff as his weapon and to fight with various hand-to-hand techniques. He has also been trained in the art of stealth, and can hide himself very quickly. Capable of scaling a 5 to 6-story building with use of a fire escape in seconds, Donatello has become used to traveling over rooftops and leaps with ease over the expanses between. As a shadow warrior, Donatello has also been taught a form of internal breathing that allows him to survive loss of atmosphere for a short time if he maintains a calm state.
Additionally, due to the mutation, Donatello and his brothers show better thermoregulation than the typical reptile. While still cold blooded by definition, in extreme heat, mechanisms to maintain homeostasis kick in as seen when Donatello was profusely sweating in the episode ‘Return to the Underground’ when exposed to baking levels of heat. The turtles also tolerate winter conditions far better than a normal reptile as seen in ‘Tales of Leo’ and ‘Monster Hunter’.

Questions: Given Donatello's level of genius, I wonder if, with sufficient work, he might be able to eventually adapt to magitech and start inventing again at a relatively modern level.
